Case study: A young African American woman with Lupus

Abstract

Nia Monroe is a 20-year-old African American woman who lives in a mid-sized city in the Midwestern United States. She, her mother, and her 3 younger siblings live in a large public housing community consisting of 700 individual units. Despite many obstacles, Nia graduated in the top of her class in high school and was a student athlete. She was awarded a full scholarship to the public university in her city where she planned to study nursing, as the first person in her family to attend college.
