Abstract

This paper outlines a perspective on communication and the construction of ego-identity regarding the influence of social media. The first section gives a brief overview of psycholinguistic aspects focusing on communication and the change of communication skills owing to the influence of social media. In the second section, communication theories are presented and the term space of communication is described. The third section examines the influence of communication processes on the construction of identity. The main topic, how communication is influenced by the use of social media and identity-constructing processes, is outlined in the fourth section. Communication has received much attention over the last two decades with the increasing use of social media. Taken together, these findings highlight the change in communication processes influenced by social media.
