Head and neck cancer accounts for 4% of all new cancer cases and 2% of all cancer deaths in the United States annually. This statement translates into 40,000 new diagnoses of head and neck cancer (30,300 with oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer and 12,500 with laryngeal cancer).1 Head and neck cancer has a much greater incidence in certain parts of the world, particularly in India, and is a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide.2 © 2008 Springer New York.
