Abstract

After induction of general anesthesia, prophylactic antibiotics were given. A Foley catheter was applied. The patient was placed in the lateral decubitus position over a bean bag. All bony prominences were well padded. The lower extremity was prepped and draped for surgery. Skin incision started at the posterior 1/3 of the greater trochanter and extended proximally for 8 cm toward a point 2 fingerbreadths below the PSIS. The incision was then extended distally over the lateral side of the thigh for 5 cm. The incision was carried through the subcutaneous tissue and iliotibial band.
