Abstract

The article is devoted to the phenomenon of whistles and whistles in the context of their language functionality. The study of the semiotics problems is of special importance today: modern communication, as well as its main tool (language), tends to simplify, minimize efforts and reduce time costs. In this case, sign systems take key positions in communication: modern text has a digital nature, characterized by polymodality, intentional visualization and openness to consumer creativity, that is, it turns out to be built on the same principles as ancient pictograms and signals. That’s why, studies related to the history of the sign systems development and usage, which include whistling and whistles, become relevant. Like any sign, they perform the function of transmitting information, organizing communication and allowing the accumulation and preservation of a unique national heritage. The main purpose of the article is to analyze and systematize the disparate facts of the existence of a whistling and whistles from the standpoint of their linguistic functions. The study describes such functions as regulatory (signaling), communicative and accumulative. A sufficient number of examples from the cultures of different countries have been selected and presented for each function, proving that these are not isolated facts, but systemic phenomena. The materials presented in this article are extremely important for the training of a teacher-musician, because they allow to demonstrate the possibilities of using of the simplest musical instrument as a mean of communication and preserving cultural legacy.
