Abstract

We describe the treatment of the permanent tide in various geodetic quantities with an emphasis on systems of gravity-related heights. We review the historical development leading to the present situation, and discuss possible scenarios for the future, especially in view of the adoption of a World Height System. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009.
