Organ Donation after Medical Assistance in Dying - Canada's First Cases (N Engl J Med 2020;382:576-577). The print version of the letter contained several errors. The first sentence of the second paragraph (page 576) should have read, "We performed a historical cohort study of completed MAID organ-donation cases using data from three Canadian provincial organ-donation organizations (Trillium Gift of Life Network, Transplant Quebec, and British Columbia Transplant) from June 2016 through January 2019 to describe the initial experience with euthanasia-associated organ donation," rather than " a historical cohort study of completed MAID organ-donation cases in three provinces to describe the initial Canadian experience ," and the second sentence should have begun, "A total of 56 patients were referred as potentially eligible for organ donation after MAID on the basis of ," rather than " were assessed for MAID and considered as potentially eligible for organ donation on the basis of ." The sentence beginning "Sixteen patients" should have begun "Twenty patients," and "14" should have been "10." The second paragraph should have ended, "On the basis of our most recent data, approximately 2000 euthanasia cases are expected in Canada each year.1 The provision of organ donation after medically assisted euthanasia involves unusual challenges, including first-person direct consent, navigation of a new legislative landscape, and incorporation of the legislated requirements of euthanasia into the donation process. Ethical issues involving the well-being of health care workers and conscientious objection have also been raised," and the separate paragraph beginning, "On the basis of" should have been omitted. In the final paragraph, the second sentence should have read, "It is evolving, and if offered to potential donors it provides them with the opportunity to fulfill their dying wishes," rather than " and if chosen offers to potential donors the opportunity ." In the penultimate sentence, the expression "for improved clinical practice" should have been "for the evolution of clinical practice." The list of authors (page 577) was incorrect; the full list of authors is available at NEJM.org. Reference 2 (page 577) should have been omitted. The article is correct at NEJM.org.
