Tuberculosis is an infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and it is known to have affected humanity since the Stone Age. Since the twentieth century, it has been possible to reduce the incidence and prevalence of it. However, the number of cases with infections by mycobacteria resistant to first-line Antituberculous treatment, the challenges of being a difficult and slow diagnosis, and its association with HIV infection make it a high mortality entity, especially in countries with limited resources. This has conditioned that although being a treatable disease, it may require second-line antituberculous treatment, surgery, or critical care.
