The Third Mission of a Regional Flagship University: The First Results of Its Realization

Abstract

The paper is dedicated to the study of the content of the third mission of the university under current conditions of social development. It has been demonstrated that the third mission of the university consists in it becoming the source of the socioeconomic development of the region. This mission is most clearly formalized in the flagship university model, the formation of network of which has begun since the end of 2015 based on the results of yet another stage of reforming of higher education system in Russia. The case of Don State Technical University that has been provided as an example goes to prove the effectiveness of the flagship university model in the development of its interaction with the regional economy.
