Abstract

Transport is a politically very sensitive area in all cities. There are high expectations related to electric mobility. From the viewpoint of a municipality, a change of propulsion technologies does not solve the transport problems. The potential of alternatives to petrol and diesel needs to be integrated into wider strategies—especially a modal shift to the sustainable modes. Bremen is an interesting showcase in the field of transport—with challenges of a traditional harbour city and being at the same time a “cycling city”. Bremen presents a wider approach of sustainable mobility—including the benefits of further electrification.
