Given a network graph representation of a system – possibly constructedfrom an appropriate set of measurements, in the manner of the previouschapter – it is common to explore the characteristics and structuralproperties of the network. Tasks range from the calculation of simplemetrics summarizing topological structure, both local and global,to the unsupervised extraction of complex relational patterns. Inthis chapter we present a core set of tools and techniques for suchpurposes.
