Abstract

Failure To Thrive is a phenomenon often encountered in the ambulatory pediatric setting. This disorder is usually classified into two main categories: organic or non-organic/psycho-social depending upon the causative factor(s). The first section of this paper discusses evaluation and assessment of the child suspected of having failure to thrive. The second section deals with specific management techniques which can be implemented by the nurse practitioner in caring for the child with non-organic failure to thrive. © Williams & Wilkins 1980.
