Abstract

In this paper, we synthesize the results of a qualitative user study supporting our proposed modular, notification-centric and ambient interaction model for mobile computing. Here, a context-dependent and extended implementation of notifications is introduced. For a range of personalized situations, individually tailored conceptual interfaces were compared against a baseline conform present-day mobile operating systems and the desired usage of suggested solutions as well as the perceived shortcomings of current offerings were investigated. We conclude and demonstrate the user preference for communication patterns introduced by our interaction model for mobile computing. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.
