Abstract

The present article presents a novel approach, the e-Inclusion- and Cohesion-based Innovation (e-ICI) model, as a tool for analysing how digital technologies can help forced migrants suffering from health restrictions. Starting from the example of forced migrants with special needs in Germany, the authors take a closer look at the current situation through statistical indicators, before providing the results of their qualitative analysis of already existing digital services for forced migrants in Germany. Their findings are complemented by deductions from the theoretical concepts of innovation, culture and inclusion. In addition, selected new digital technologies are assessed regarding their applicability and possible risks. The authors argue that the e-ICI model offers a valuable new approach for researchers and practitioners that takes the individual needs of forced migrants dealing with health issues into account.
