Abstract

Wind erosion, a land-surface process itself, is closely related to other land-surface processes, in particular to soil hydrological and surface bio-ecological processes which determine the status of soil moisture and vegetation cover. Wind erosion occurs only if the soil is depleted of moisture and the lack of vegetation cover is serious, as the capacity of the surface to resist wind erosion depends critically on these factors. Hence, land-surface modelling is of critical importance to wind-erosion studies.
