Abstract

The European Commission stated the requirements for the digital tachograph system in the regulation No 1360/2002 that has to be fitted into new trucks from 5 August 2005. The digital tachograph system consists of three main components: the motion sensor, the digital tachograph and tachograph smartcards. Each component has to undergo type approval, including an ITSEC/Common Criteria security evaluation. This contribution gives an introduction for the digital tachograph system. Both the technical and non-technical security-related requirements are analysed and (potential) weak points are discussed. © 2006 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
