Abstract

In video coding, the matching process for multiple reference frames is carried out and the movement across the frames in the sequence of the video is analyzed during motion estimation. An improved fast motion estimation algorithm is proposed using multiple frames for reference (MRF) as a substitute of a single frame used as reference (SRF). The results observed on simulation shows that the method put forward could speed up the steps involved and improve the PSNR value by 2.5 dB and to determine the motion vector with the reduced search space.
