Abstract

In this chapter some basic results which concern the problem of switching and switched systems are reported. This chapter has been written in a period of intensive research so that, quite differently from the previous sections, many other new results are expected. We will briefly introduce the concept of hybrid systems, which are dynamical systems which include both continuous and logic variables, and then we will immediately consider the case of systems which can undergo switching, which are a special subclass of hybrid systems.
