Moclobemide is a reversible inhibitor of the monoamine oxidase type A. In clinical studies, more than 3900 patients have been treated with moclobemide for depression. Eighteen of these patients attempted suicide by overdosing moclobemide with or without other drugs. All patients recovered fully without leaving signs of cardio-or hepatotoxicity. Moclobemide can safely be prescribed for in- and out-patient treatment of depression. © 1992 Springer-Verlag.
