Abstract

This paper proposes a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) scheme for permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbine systems. In this method, the proportional controller is added to the optimal torque controller, in which its proportional gain is tuned online, depending on a trade-off between the system dynamic behavior and the transient load of the drive train. Thus, the MPPT control method can improve the tracking performance effectively and thereby increase its energy yield. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by simulation results for the 2, [MW]-PMSG wind turbine system.
