Abstract

The currently most widely used methods for the measurement of SO3/H2SO4 in flue gas are discussed. These include absorption in isopropyl alcohol solution (IPA), controlled condensation (CCD) using a liquid cooled condensor, and the dew point meter (DPM) which measures the conductivity of a freshly condensed acid film. Analytical procedures, sampling techniques, and overall method reliability and accuracy are discussed in light of our own experience and others (from available literature). In general the controlled condensation method was found to give the most reliable results in a variety of applications but as expected, all methods require strict adherence to technique to assure reproducible results. © 1979 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
