The final stage in the listed logic of dimensional analysis is given, for the first time in book form, as a fully generalised and rigorous derivation of the pi-theorem. Stress is placed on the essential requirement of the retention of a functional relationship. This proof avoids any problem with a choice of dimensions when these are found not to be the effective ones. Examples of solutions are given to illustrate this.
