The answer to the central question of our paper, of whether SOD alters myocardial infarct size, is unknown. Potentially critical systematic differences between studies with positive and negative results could be due to the duration of reperfusion before infarct size determination, the method used to measure infarct size, the presence of a critical stenosis, statistical techniques, consideration of all appropriate covariates, and the possible existence of undefined covariates.
