Abstract

vere and complicated malaria is uncommonly seen with P. vivax species. The condition which predispose for severe malaria with P. vivax infection are transfusion related malaria in immunocompromised host, severe anaemia in debilitated and malnourished patients. We studied 72 patients of severe and complicated malaria at MGIMS, Sevagram, Wardha over 3 years period and observed 11.27 percent cases due to P. vivax infection along with one death. none of our patients had associated co-infection with P. falciparum or any predisposing factors like blood transfusion or severe anaemia and immuno-compromised state.
