Abstract

Root meristematic cells of 10‐d‐old Festuca rubra L. were examined by TEM. A range of vacuolar structures were observed ranging from provacuolar bodies associated with dictyosomes and sequestration vacuoles, through to autolytic vacuoles and residual bodies. Based on these TEM observations, we suggest a sequence of vacuolar development in root meristematic cells in relation to tissue differentiation in F. rubra. Copyright © 1992, Wiley Blackwell.
