Abstract

A cyber-physical system (CPS) is an innovative variant of digitalization that has attracted interest from governments, research, and industries. As cyber¬physical power systems (CPPSs) have evolved, conventional power networks, which include physical hardware as a core component, have become more interconnected with communication and information technology. A CPPS is a heterogeneous network that is strongly coupled to cyber systems and allows bidirectional power and information flows, making microgrids possible. Despite the fact that digital technologies are more efficient and dependable, the electrical grid is susceptible to cybersecurity threats and requires a syn¬ergy between cyber and physical systems. Modeling approaches and a thor¬ough evaluation of the interaction between cyber and physical systems are essential for the analysis and resolution of CPPS glitches. Modeling, simula¬tion, and analytic approaches that distinguish the physical and cyber realms are incompatible with CPPSs. Thus, a groundwork for integrating physical and cyber systems needs to be developed to examine the practical implica¬tions of combining them. The chapter discusses a variety of modeling, sim¬ulation, and analytic tools together with various forms of cyber-attacks and cybersecurity actions for current CPPSs. This study provides an overview of the various detection and control techniques for detecting and mitigating cyber-attacks on power systems.
