Rehabilitation of people with a severe injury or occupational disease usually requires the teamwork of different services. Therapy provided during rehabilitation can be viewed as a linked system whose functioning is influenced by the collaboration of the subsystems. In view of the legal obligation to reintegrate patients into professional and social life as far as possible, three quality levels can be identified that have an effect on the success of rehabilitation: the quality of (1) the health care system with regard to equitable satisfaction of needs and accessibility, (2) the individual services, and (3) the cooperation between the individual care providers. Factors for the success of the latter are (1) careful selection of network partners, (2) agreement on overriding goals and principles, (3) trust among the partners, (4) coordinated goal and treatment planning, (5) a coordinating center, (6) regular communication, and (7) regular evaluation of the cooperation. © Springer-Verlag 2011.
