Abstract

In order to provide valuable technical information for technological innovation and business strategy, it is important to analyze implicit law from large amounts of patent data. We designed and implemented an online patent analysis system using rich analytical indexes with data mining techniques. This article describes the key techniques of our system, e.g., system framework, functional structures, index analysis, and visual and interface design. We performed experiments on the Derwent Innovations Index (DII) database. The results show that our system can help to mine and analyze an immense amount of patent data rapidly, conveniently and effectively. Moreover, the user can understand the patent value more profoundly to study, formulate and implement relative patent strategies. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
