This paper describes the important criteria for selecting design software tools for realising specific robotic solutions quickly and efficiently. Possible quantitative and qualitative methods for the proposed selection framework are discussed. A case study on formulating a design toolset for the research and the development of search and rescue robotic systems is presented.
