Results of 2 anal. campaigns (1997 and 2001), focused on pharmaceuticals for human use, and conducted in the Po River basin, Italy, are summarized. Methods used to analyze water samples from different sites are described. Sample campaign results were grossly comparable and showed pharmaceuticals are widespread pollutants, with possible implications for human health and the environment. [on SciFinder(R)]
