Abstract

This chapter describes how to perform a multivisceral resection such as a pelvic exenteration in the setting of locally advanced primary or recurrent pelvic cancer (rectum, anus, urological, gynecological). The emphasis is on strategic considerations to weigh risks and benefits of an aggressive multidisciplinary surgical approach. Preoperative preparation, pitfalls and danger points, and surgical strategy and technique are discussed.
