Abstract

The impact of the creation of MERCOSUR (or MERCOSUL), the Southern common market, consisting of Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, on the Argentinian textile industry is assessed. In general, the Argentinian industry view is less than enthusiastic about the venture, believing that increased competition will adversely affect jobs and prosperity.
