Abstract

1. Israel's healthcare is very accessible. Access to critical care is thus available to all regardless of health insurance. 2. There is a severe shortage of ICU beds in acute care hospitals in Israel. Therefore, most patients requiring critical care are hospitalized in general ward beds. 3. Families tend to insist on maximal care in Israel even when care is deemed futile by the attending physicians.
