Science literacy skills in Indonesia remain poor. The implementation of the 2013 curriculum learning process is one of the measures to promote science literacy. Senior High School (SMA) and Islamic Senior High School (MA) are the formal secondary school institutions in Indonesia. Senior high school is overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture, whereas Islamic senior high school is overseen by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. As a result, there are policy distinctions between the two, such as facilities and infrastructure, teaching and learning procedures (learning resources and policy-based curriculum creation). The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that influence science literacy skills in Banjarmasin City Senior High Schools (SMA) and Islamic senior high school or Islamic Senior High School (MA). The descriptive quantitative research method was applied and the group randomization technique was used for sampling. One high school and two MAs in Banjarmasin City's Central Banjarmasin District served as samples. Literacy tests and questionnaires were used as research instruments. The science literacy test results revealed that the average of senior high school students (71.68±7.99) was greater than that of Islamic senior high school students (70.62±9.78). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups (Mann-Whitney Sig 0.447). Age, gender, father's occupation, father's latest education, father's major, mother's occupation, mother's latest education, mother's major, free time to read, frequency of reading science news, socio-culture, and environment all have a significant impact on senior high school students' science literacy skills. Islamic senior high school students' science literacy skills are influenced by characteristics such as age, gender, father's occupation, father's last education, father's major, mother's major, free time to read, frequency of reading science news, socio-culture, and living environment.
