Abstract

In this paper we describe the design of a turn manager for deployment; in artificial conversational agents, using the Hurel statechart formalism. We show that the formulism's support; for concurrent interrelated processes allows a modular design, producing three smaller state-charts responsible for the turn taking logic. The logic of the turn manager is inspired by a well-known turn management model for human-human conversation. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
