Abstract

In the Upper Permian main dolomite, the best reservoir facies are those of the upper carbonate-platform slope and adjoining parts of the platform itself. Most of the oil and gas fields so far discovered occur in this general facies belt both in W Poland and in other parts of the main dolomite basin. Intensive subaerial cementation within the carbonate-platform facies during early diagenesis essentially eliminated porosity and seals for lateral migration of hydrocarbons, except along a narrow zone adjoining the platform slope.-J.M.H.
