The establishment of the cognitive model is beneficial to the identification of the operator’s cognitive error model and its cognitive stages and causes, so as to provide the corresponding basis for the design of the ship’s human–machine interface and the training of the operator. This paper studies the construction of a cognitive behavior model for ship operators, and results show that the behavior of ship control system operators is mainly manifested as cognitive behavior, including monitor/discover, state evaluation, response plan, response execution. The three main feedbacks (state evaluation, response plan, response execution) in the cognitive model can be seen as a series of cognitive cycles, each providing information for the next stage.
