Abstract

Kidney transplantation is considered a definitive modality of kidney replacement therapy. Living-related and preemptive renal transplantation is one of the crucial factors allowing planned and rapid access to optimal treatment. Given the worldwide shortage of kidney donors, the criteria for selecting suitable deceased donor kidneys must be carefully weighed up against the recipient’s needs. Significant progress in immunologic testing and monitoring, as well as careful pretransplant evaluation of recipients and donors has improved the long-term outcomes of pediatric renal transplantation.
