Abstract

Panniculosis is not only a cosmetic problem but it is a relatively frequent and painful disease of the subcutaneous tissue in rheumatological patients. In most cases it can easily be diagnosed by means of the characteristic symptomatology and localization, but it must be differentiated from a series of other diseases located in the subcutis and the tissues thereunder. Various trigger factors are important, especially overweight as well as hormonal and mental factors. Besides the elimination of these factors a number of medical and physiotherapeutic measures can influence the disease. In the localized forms the therapeutic results are rather favorable; with generalized processes the prognosis must be made with care.
