Dysmorphophobia or body dysmorphic disorder is a newly defined mental disorder. Little is currently known about its clinical features and treatment. This review is directed at describing the clinical characteristics and treatment strategies. The results of clinical research are reviewed. Limitations of the existing literature are summarized and suggestions for future research are offered with respect to methodology, treatments comparisons and the search of predictors of therapeutic success.
