Abstract

Choledochal cysts are congenital dilations of the biliary ductal system. These lesions are associated with development of cholangiocarcinoma so resection is generally advised. Laparoscopic resection is technically demanding, but this approach is the emerging standard of care. In this chapter, the following aspects are addressed: indications and contraindications to operation; patient and surgeon positioning; instrument port placement; and principal elements of the procedure. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
