Abstract

Even tough the UN General Assembly have declared 2021 as the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour, the reality in Brazil is that studies on the phenomenon may be outdated. This article aims to present information about child labor, contained in the main databases used in studies on the subject - Census and Pnad's of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) - and present information from official alternative databases to be consulted for further study of the phenomenon - Basic Education Assessment System of the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP) - so we can analyze the relationship between these different sources of information; the use of different collection methods; the pros and cons of using each of them and using them in comparative analyses. While the Census and Pnad's are answered by those responsible for the household, the Saeb questionnaire is mandatory for public schools and are answered by the children and adolescents themselves. Which makes the Saeb an information bank as important as the IBGE for understanding and coping with the problem.
