Peripartum Depression (PPD) is quite frequent, but it is seldom recognized and consequently properly treated. Untreated prenatal depression is associated with an increase in adverse pregnancy outcomes, including fetal growth restriction, low birth weight infants, premature birth, preeclampsia and postnatal complications (Apter et al., 2011, ACOG Committee on Practice Bulletins, 2008). A precise attention on women’s well being during pregnancy and postpartum is important for women and their babies, always considering drug treatments when necessary, chosen with respect to their safety profiles.
