Precision agriculture uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to control agricultural sensors and connect them to cloud infrastructure. One of the challenges in implementing IoT in precision agriculture is the diversity of applications and communication protocols while using constrained devices. The contradicted dependency of the library and version of the programs encourage the need for a breakthrough in implementing applications of precision agriculture sensor or gateways. In this study, the authors implemented container-based virtualization for IoT devices on precision farming, which makes it easy for program implementation without reducing the performance of IoT devices. The virtualization program that used in this experiment is Docker, which implemented into the Raspberry Pi device that acts as an IoT gateway device. The results of this study proved that Docker did not reduce the performance of the Raspberry Pi. Using Docker on IoT of precision agriculture infrastructure was plausible because it provides benefits in the term of easier implementation, updating, and process isolation.
