Abstract

The goal of providing mobility interventions for children with cerebral palsy in school is to assist them to have access to the school environment and participate in their school program with the end result of employment and postsecondary transition, independent living, and community participation. In the school setting, mobility interventions are stated on the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and used to facilitate task-oriented outcomes and participation for children with cerebral palsy in the natural environment, rather than focusing on correction of the impairments. The school-based physical therapist provides both direct and indirect services to help a student attain goals and increase their ability to take part in the school program and access the environment. The chapter reviews evidence-based interventions that can be used in the school setting for students with cerebral palsy. Case studies provide three examples of children with cerebral palsy and how to provide mobility interventions and supports into their special education program.
