Abstract

We present a novel technique for dynamic strain measurements in optical fibers, based on the stimulated Brillouin scattering interaction between two counter-propagating optical pulses. The technique permits to address dynamically and randomly the position at which vibration is measured. Preliminary experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed technique. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.
