Abstract

This chapter considers issues in molecular and clinical pathology of HIV-related lymphomas, leukemias, and myeloproliferative disorders (MPD). While HIV-associated lymphomas are specifically addressed in the WHO classification, HIV-related leukemias and myeloproliferative disorders are not. The 2008 WHO classification of malignant lymphoma distinguishes lymphoma also occurring in immunocompetent patients from those occurring more specifically in HIV-positive patients, with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) being most common, followed by Burkitt/Burkitt-like lymphoma and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL).
