In this contribution, we investigate the interrelation between visual focus and higher-level cognitive processing during diagrammatic problem solving. It is argued that eye movement data can be employed for the detection and prediction of model selection in mental model-based reasoning contexts. The argument is substantiated by results from an explorative eye tracking study. Implications for the role of cognitive models in human-computer collaborative reasoning and potential application domains are discussed. ©Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
