Abstract

Lisa Dyson examines in her chapter how the authors of Chinese history textbooks integrate China’s changing stance and significant, if secondary, role in the Cold War into their narrative of the period. She examines the complex conditions under which Chinese textbooks are developed and the practical and political constraints authors face, coupled with the rapid development of the country in recent years with its growing global influence.
