Abstract

A further overview is presented of India's employment situation. Issues discussed are: population growth and status of employment (population growth; changes in structure of output and employment; changes in employment and unemployment); agricultural development and its impact on employment; growth of the rural non-farm sector; and special employment generation and poverty alleviation schemes in rural India.
